Day 15: Educator Salary Supplement Passes House; More on Teacher Tax Credit

House Lawmakers Approve AFY22 Budget

The House passed HB 910, the Amended Fiscal Year 2022 budget, which outlines proposed changes to the state budget for the current school year, including one-time salary supplements for educators. More information on the amended budget is available from PAGE here. The Senate begins reviewing HB 910 next week and will likely make more adjustments to the budget. Additional proposed educator raises are also contained in the Fiscal Year 2023 budget, which is expected to begin moving through the House appropriations process soon.

Teacher Recruitment Tax Credit Applications Now Available

The Georgia Department of Education released the application for the Teacher Recruitment Tax Credit program. Recently hired teachers in high-needs subject areas at qualifying schools can apply for the $3,000 tax credit, which, if the teachers are selected, would reduce the amount of state income tax they owe. Qualifying rural and high-needs schools are identified by Regional Education Service Agencies.

The tax credit program was established by the General Assembly with the passage of HB 32 during the 2021 session. More information about the tax credit program is available here.
