The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) met virtually June 11 and 12
New GACE Assessments Arrive July 1 On July 1, 2025, the GACE provider will formally shift to Evaluation Systems, Pearson (ES). The GaPSC has published a new website providing information and resources related to the new assessments. |
Executive Secretary Update

GaPSC Executive Secretary Jody Barrow reported that the GaPSC's guidance on educator use of artificial intelligence has been completed and posted here. The guidance documents include a survey link allowing educators to provide ongoing feedback.
Barrow updated commissioners on the GaPSC's work to develop recommendations to strengthen the educator workforce as directed by SR 237. He stated that a draft framework has been shared among the heads of state agencies and educator organizations. A meeting to narrow the focus of the work will be held in late July.
GACE Standard-Setting Process

GaPSC Program Director Anne Marie Fenton and representatives from ES, provided an update on standard-setting for the new GACE assessments. The commission also voted to set the passing scores for service and paraprofessional assessments as well as most upgrade, educational leadership, literacy and content assessments.
As a reminder, GACE assessments will transfer providers to ES July 1. Learn more on the new GACE website.
Educator Preparation & Certification

The commission took the following action on several Educator Preparation & Certification Committee recommendations:
Brewton-Parker College
Granted Continual Approval for the EPP and the following six preparation programs:
Elementary Education (P-5) [Baccalaureate degree; Certification only]
English (6-12) [Baccalaureate degree; Certification only]
Middle Grades (4-8) -- Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Science [Baccalaureate degree; Certification only]
Music (P-12) [Baccalaureate degree; Certification only]
Science Education (6-12) [Baccalaureate degree; Certification only]
Special Education General Curriculum (P-12) [Baccalaureate degree; Certification only]
Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) RESA
Granted Developmental Approval for the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Facilitator Endorsement.
First District RESA
Granted Developmental Approval for the Dyslexia and Gifted In-field Endorsements.
Fort Valley State University
Voted that the areas for improvement (AFIs) in Standards 5.2 and 5.3 remain for the EPP and that another status report be submitted by Sept. 11, 2025.
Gordon State College
Removed the AFIs for the following standards:

Standard 5.4
Morehouse College
Granted Developmental Approval for the following programs:
Education (6-12) [Baccalaureate degree]
Music Education (P-12) [Baccalaureate degree]

The commission approved all recommendations for cases on the agenda.
