Day 8: Educator Leave Bill Moves to Governor's Desk
One of the more interesting aspects of the 2026 Legislative Session is that, since it is the second year of the legislative biennium, bills left over from 2025 remain eligible for passage. Moreover, these leftover bills do not need to restart the legislative process and, in some cases, can achieve final passage with a simple motion. This situation was illustrated today when the Senate took action on several bills, including one on educator leave allowances. House Floor Action

Day 35: K-8 Student Cell Phone Ban Moves to Governor's Desk
Day 35 didn't disappoint on education action. It was a busy day on the House and Senate floor and in committees. The Senate passed HB 340 , by Rep. Scott Hilton (R-Peachtree Corners), which prohibits K-8 student use of cell phones during the school day. The legislation is supported by PAGE based on educator feedback. Day 24: Riley Gaines Act Moves as Organ Donor Leave, Vouchers, PSERS, & Multiple Other Ed Bills Progress
With Crossover Day looming next week, the General Assembly is moving bills at a highly accelerated rate. The House passed the Riley Gaines Act during its floor session.
